Achieve a Good Attitude This Year!
Several years ago, the following article appeared in our local newspaper. My dad clipped the article and I recently came across it again. It is still timely and valuable advice written by Lloyd Shearer. Shearer was a celebrity columnist for Parade magazine (an insert in the Sunday paper) and wrote the popular column Personality Parade.
10 Ways to Achieve a Good Attitude
- 1. Set goals for yourself. Make them believable and clearly defined. Write them down every morning, vividly imagining them during the day. Once achieved, create another.
DO NOT PUT THIS OFF. DO IT NOW!
2. Avoid negative people. They put junk into your subconscious. You cannot help them unless they are ready to be helped. They are rarely ready.
3. Actively seek positive people. Make it a point to spend more time with them. Positive people are gems. Cherish every one you meet.
4. Eat extremely well. Maximum nutrition levels create greater strength, tissue growth, mental clarity, and a superior attitude.
5. Increase your self-discipline. Resist the urge to become comfortable with your efforts. Fight against laziness. Stay hungry.
6. Learn to delay gratification. Do what must be done now, rather than what you like to do. Never make the mistake of serving two desires. You can only serve one.
7. Consider spiritual values. Research this area closely. It can profoundly affect your attitude. Approach it with an open mind.
8. Use time wisely. Do the most productive thing possible at any given moment.
9. Learn from mistakes. Analyze why they happened. Use them as tools for growth.
10. Develop a sense of humor. Don’t always take everything so seriously.
No one will ever get out of this world alive. Resolve therefore to maintain a reasonable sense of values.
Take care of yourself. Good health is everyone’s major source of health. Without it, happiness is almost impossible.
Resolve to be cheerful and helpful. People will repay you in kind.
Avoid angry and abrasive persons. They are generally vengeful
Avoid zealots. They are generally humorless.
Resolve to listen more and talk less. No one ever learns anything by talking.
Be chary of giving advice. Wise men won’t need it and fools won’t heed it.
Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic of the weak and the wrong. Some time in your life you will have been all of these.
Do not equate money with success. There are many successful money makers who are miserable failures as human beings. What counts most about success is how a person achieves it.
